Do you use the Tower Bridge to travel between Sacramento and West Sacramento? You might want to consider alternate routes over the next two months.

The bridge will undergo inspections and repairs between May 28 and July 27, according to a City of West Sacramento news release. During this time, one lane will be closed in each direction as Caltrans works on the bridge's lifting mechanisms. Work is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Both lanes of the bridge will be closed during these periods:

June 11-15, 11:30 p.m.-6 a.m.

June 30-July 1, 11:30 p.m.-6 a.m.

July 18-19, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

July 23, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Drivers can use either Business 80 or the I Street Bridge to cross between the cities. I Street will also be available for pedestrians.

A film titled '"Gay ceremony marks opening of a huge bridge" shows a large crowd gathered to witness the opening of Tower Bridge over the Sacramento River on Dec. 18, 1935. California Governor Frank Merriam (1934-1939) presides over the ceremony.
