Southbound Highway 99 at Elk Grove will be shut down overnight on Thursday for construction, requiring a lengthy detour, according to Caltrans.
Construction crews will be working at various spots on southbound Highway 99, removing concrete barriers and installing new guardrail. The work will require the closure of southbound Highway 99 from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.

The closure will require a 22-mile detour. Southbound Highway 99 motorists will be detoured west on Elk Grove Boulevard to get onto southbound Interstate 5.

From there, motorists will need to take eastbound Twin Cities Road to get back onto southbound Highway 99.
