Jace Trevon Ernst, 25, simply would not stop talking during a television show late Friday night, Las Vegas police say. It ended up costing him his life.

When his roommate, Dymund Ellis, 19, told Ernst to shut up about 11 p.m., he replied, “Shut up, b----,” police told The Las Vegas Review-Journal. Ellis armed herself with a kitchen knife, then told Ernst to call her a b---- again. He did.

Ellis stabbed him once in the chest, police told KVVU. Ernst was later pronounced dead at a Las Vegas hospital.

Police arrested Ellis on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon, according to The Las Vegas Sun.

Ellis and Ernst had been roommates for about two years and frequently argued, neighbors told KSNV.

“He has done things to her, and she has done things to him,” Debra Wesley, whose niece lived with the two, told the station. "This particular day, it just got out of hand. She only hit him once, and sadly it just happened to be his heart. She never intended that."

Neighbor Chet Wilkins told the station that Ernst was "a very respectable young man" who did not deserve to die.
