The endangered 1-year-old Georgia girl who was “abducted” early Thursday has been found safe,” Arcade Police Chief Randy Williams said at a press conference.

Baylee Sue Peeples had been missing since early Thursday, and was described as being “in extreme danger” after she was taken in Jefferson, Georgia, by her father, 39-year-old Robert Joseph Peeples, reported the Jefferson Police Department in Georgia.

Williams said Peeples “dropped off” Baylee about 1 p.m. in Gwinnett County at the home of one of his relatives, then left in a white van. A video of the press conference was posted on YouTube by 11Alive.

Robert Peeples was taken into custody while sitting in his van late Thursday, near the Lawrenceville community, reported the station on Friday.

“Baylee is fine. She looks fine,” Williams said at the press conference. “We will look into the reasons behind (why) he might have taken Baylee. We don’t know that right now, until we talk to him.”

Peeples was wanted for kidnapping and aggravated assault, with the latter charge related to “hitting the mother with a vehicle” as she tried to stop him from taking the child, Williams said.

The Georgia State Bureau of Investigation had been in contact with the child and confirmed her identity, he said. Experts are currently examining the girl to see whether she needs any medical attention, Williams said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the girl was taken “from a location on Rock Forge Road in Jefferson” shortly before 2 a.m., and Robert Peeples was believed to be headed south to Gwinnett County near Atlanta.

AMBER, Blue and Silver Alerts are used by local law enforcement to notify the public that someone has gone missing. Here’s what you need to know about what each color code means.

Peeples is white, 5-foot-10 inches, 187 pounds, and was last seen driving a white 1993 GMC Vandura van, with Georgia license plate RIK1620, police said.
