Did Rep. Loretta Sanchez knock it out of the park with the latest edition of her much-loved Christmas card?

This year, the Santa Ana Democrat and husband Jack Einwechter donned uniforms and stepped up to bat at Angels Stadium to honor her favorite baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

“We wanted to feature another great location in the district,” Sanchez said in an interview. “And I always look great in red.”

Her late cat Gretzky, a stalwart co-star since the cards began in 1998, found a way in as team mascot, sporting a “Hillary 2016” helmet. Sanchez said the cat used to enjoy curling up with Clinton when she was in Congress.

“Gretzky certainly loved Hillary,” Sánchez said. “He was a very petulant cat. She had the magical touch with him.”

The card’s punny message may also offer a cryptic hint at Sanchez’s own political future: “And she will be swinging for the fences next season!”

“I heard there might be a Senate seat opening up,” Sanchez teased, although she wouldn’t confirm if she would join the lineup of candidates if U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer decides to hang up her spikes. “You didn't hear it from me.”
