A Humboldt County woman faces charges after allegedly leaving her grandchild locked in a hot car Sunday evening while she gambled, authorities said.
Katherine Perri was arrested on suspicion of willful harm or injury to a child and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle outside the Bear River Casino in Loleta, south of Eurkea, a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release reports.
Casino security called the sheriff’s office at 6:51 p.m. to report a child locked inside a Ford Explorer in the parking lot. Security officers said the 2-year-old child appeared unresponsive and removed the child from the vehicle. The child was taken to Redwood Memorial Hospital for treatment. Child Welfare Services took the child into protective custody.
As emergency personnel responded, Perri emerged from the casino and was arrested after an investigation, the sheriff’s office reported. She had reportedly left her grandchild in the vehicle for about 40 minutes while she gambled inside the casino.
