Blue Devil Dash on Sunday
The Mercy Gulch Days Blue Devil Dash begins at 8 a.m. Sunday at Bob Hart Square in Merced’s downtown. The 1K race for children younger than 12 is $20, and the 5K race for all ages is $35. Register online at www.cityofmerced.org or the day of the race. There is a late registration fee of $5. Proceeds will benefit the Merced College volleyball program. Youth soccer challenge
Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 from Merced, Planada, Le Grand, Chowchilla and Mariposa are invited to participate in the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The competition will be Saturday at Planada Elementary School, 9525 E. Brodrick St., Planada. Preregistration begins at 9 a.m. and the event starts at 11. Senior Center is 20
The Merced Senior Community Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The activity-filled celebration will be open to the public. The center is at 755 W. 15th St.
Retired Women of Merced College

Merced Elks golf tournament
The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament Sept. 27 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave., Atwater. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m. and check-in is 11:30 a.m. with lunch available at noon. There will be a raffle, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. Atwater Tea Party meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue. Barbara Levey, Merced County registrar of voters, will speak about the election process. Also on the program will be a candidates’ forum for the Atwater mayor and City Council seats up for election in November. All candidates are expected to participate.
The Merced SPCA will have a pasta luncheon fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at DiCicco’s, 3360 Highway 59 in Merced. Tickets are $15. The meal is pasta, salad and a roll. Day of Prayer for Peace
The United Methodist Church of Merced is hosting a Day of Prayer for Peace at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the church’s courtyard. The church is at 899 Yosemite Park Way (use Laurel Street entrance). The international observance offers an opportunity for people of faith throughout the world to pray and act together to nurture lasting peace in the hearts of people, their families, communities and societies.
