Victim in fatal Los Banos crash identified as Modesto man

A 67-year-old Modesto man killed Monday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 152 has been identified as Ronald Tingley, the Merced County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

Tingley was driving a 2006 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle when the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on the highway near the Romero Visitors Center, just west of Los Banos, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash apparently occurred when a car traveling eastbound crossed the highway’s median, went into the oncoming lanes and struck vehicles heading westbound.

Julia Felice, 20, of Salinas, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic heading east, lost control of her car and went through the center median into the oncoming left lane. Felice suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital Los Banos for treatment, the CHP said.

Felice’s Civic collided with a 1982 Datsun 280ZX driven by Kirk Goodall, 50, of San Mateo, then hit the motorcycle, ejecting Tingley, who was wearing a helmet, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jhalman Nurpuri, 62, of Manteca was driving a 2008 Freightliner big rig, heading west on the highway. The CHP said Nurpuri tried to avoid the collision in front of him, but his big rig struck the Civic.

The CHP said Goodall and Nurpuri didn’t report any injuries.
