Valley students among semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship Program

Six central San Joaquin Valley high school students are among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program, including one from Merced High.

The Valley honorees are Aditya Kumarasamy of Merced High, Cadence Calvert and Divya Vijay of Clovis North High, Richard Boone and Karthik Ramesh of University High, and Brendan Watamura of Redwood High.

The semifinalists and their schools must submit a detailed application with academic, co-curricular, employment and leadership histories to move on to the next stage.

The 16,000 high school seniors are competing for 7,600 scholarships and about $33 million in scholarship money. They were selected from 1.4 million applicants.
