Tea party meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue. Barbara Levey, Merced County registrar of voters, will speak about the election process, and there will be a candidates forum for Atwater mayor and City Council seats up for election in November. All candidates are expected to participate.
Merced High homecoming
Merced High will hold its homecoming Friday. A carnival will be at the campus from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Bears will face Enochs High at 5:15 p.m. (junior varsity) and 7:30 p.m. (varsity).
Golden Valley High School will host its 20th Anniversary Homecoming on Friday at Veteran's Stadium, 2121 E. Childs Ave., Merced. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. and include face painting for kids and a parade of clubs. Halftime festivities include class skits on a “Battle of the Books” theme. Fighting Spirit Pro will have a steel cage match Friday at Atwater Community Center, 760 E. Bellevue Road. Doors open at 6 p.m., match starts at 7. Atwater Women’s Club kickoff
The Atwater Women’s Club will kick off its 2014-15 year at its first meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at the group’s clubhouse, 3rd and Grove streets. All members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. The year will begin with a slate of new officers, some fun and interesting events to come.
Pathfinder and Adventurer registration will be held 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Merced Adventist School, 2300 E. Olive Ave. Pathfinder is a worldwide organization of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, although young people of any religious persuasion are welcome and encouraged to join.
McSwain Advisory Committee meeting
The McSwain Municipal Advisory Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at McSwain Elementary, Room 18, 926 Scott Road in Merced,. The meeting will include a discussion regarding abatement program considerations, an overview of traffic issues related to McSwain by Dana Hertfelder, county director of public works and new information regarding the Kinder-Morgan tanks at Buhach Road and SP✔ Ave. All residents of McSwain are invited.
Genealogical Society meeting
Michael Gleason will talk about finding documents outside of government archives at the Merced County Genealogical Society meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gracey Room of Merced County Library, 2100 O St. Open to all.
Free Christian concert

Bands against bullying
The Atwater Police Activities League will sponsor a free concert from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Ralston Park. Performers include Lighthouse for the Blind, featuring Polo Jones, Mike Vanderhule and Rob Tracy; Monsters Rock; High Voltage; Banshees; and Contagious. Atwater Music Room vocalists also are scheduled to perform.
Day of Prayer for Peace
The United Methodist Church of Merced will host a Day of Prayer for Peace at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the courtyard of the church, 899 Yosemite Park Way (use the Laurel Street entrance). The international observance is an opportunity for people of faith to pray and act together to nurture lasting peace in the hearts of people. The Merced chapter of the Mexican American Golf Association will hold its tournament at 9 a.m. Sunday at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave., Atwater.
