Highway 165 off Canal Street in the Stevinson area was closed Sunday morning due to a sinkhole in the southbound side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to CHP’s website, the road will be closed “long term” until the damage is repaired.
Traffic is being diverted while Caltrans addresses the situation. The sinkhole was spotted around 4 a.m. Sunday, and happened directly over a canal. Both lanes of the highway are closed.
At least one vehicle was damaged early Sunday morning because of the affected section of road.
