Hall of fame banquet
Tickets are on sale for the third annual Blue Devil Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet at Merced College on Oct. 11. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the gymnasium of the 3600 M St. campus. Tickets are $50 per person, or a sponsored table of eight is $500. Warnke fundraising dinner
Vern Warnke’s campaign for sheriff will hold a fundraising dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Italo-American Lodge featuring Mike Salvadori’s chicken marsala with tortellini. Black Oak Casino bus trip
The Native Daughters of the Golden West of Merced will host a Black Oak Casino bus trip on Oct. 4. Bus pickup will be at 7:45 a.m. at the Target parking lot in Atwater, 1000 Commerce Ave., and at 8:15 a.m. at the Wal Mart parking lot in Merced, 3055 Loughborough Drive. Sunday Dance Social

Merced Homeless Connect
The 2014 Merced Homeless Connect is a free one-day event to offer services to homeless people. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Hoffmeister Center at Central Presbyterian Church, 1920 Canal St. in Merced. Services will include medical, identifications, haircuts, showers, clothing, birth certificates and food stamps. Free lunch will be provided and 250 filled backpacks will be distributed. No one under age 18 allowed.
ALS Challenge at Elks Lodge
An ALS ice bucket challenge will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Merced Elks Lodge, 1910 M St. in Merced. Donations on behalf of Mike “Booger” Dragovich will benefit those who have ALS.
