Man injured on Highway 99 when pickup overturns

One man suffered major injuries Friday afternoon after his vehicle overturned on Highway 99 near Livingston, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man’s identity was not released.

The CHP told the Merced Sun-Star the man was driving a 1989 Toyota pickup south on Highway 99 just before 4 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he made an “unsafe turning movement.”

The vehicle went through the center divide and overturned on the northbound side of the highway, Officer Moises Onsurez said.

Officers said the driver was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived on scene. He was flown to a Modesto hospital. An update on his condition was not available Friday.

The passenger, Antonio Santos Garcia, 22, of Merced was not injured.

Both lanes of traffic were closed for about 40 minutes while wreckage from the site was cleared.
