A 34-year-old man suffered major burns over the weekend in Atwater from electrical wire, the Atwater Police Department reported.
Norberto Reyes Jr. was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with burn injuries covering his body, Lt. Samuel Joseph told the Merced Sun-Star. An update on Reyes’ condition was not available Monday.
Police responded at 11:41 a.m. Sunday to Lalo’s Auto Body in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue in Atwater. Officers found Reyes on the south edge of the roof of the business, police said.
“It was learned the victim was constructing a carport and while moving an approximately 30-foot-long antenna came in contact with overhead electrical wires,” Joseph said.

Joseph said investigators believe Reyes was working independently and was not employed by any commercial engineer or construction company.
Police said the construction was being done without a building permit or authorization from the city building inspector.
