Firefighters responded Thursday night to quickly extinguish flames that were coming through the roof of a Carmichael house.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were dispatched just before 10 p.m. to a home in the 5600 block of Hesper Way, where they attacked the fire that started on the exterior of the house and spread to the attic and interior.
Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, containing damage to only the attic and a rear corner of the structure. Most of the home was not burned.
Damage was estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental, but no specifics on how it began were available.
