An early afternoon fire Saturday in Granite Bay mostly gutted a $1.1 million single-family home.
Jason Brooks, battalion chief with the South Placer Fire District, said fire crews responded to the 8400 block of Winterhawk Lane just north of Douglas Boulevard shortly before 1 p.m., after a single phone call report of smoke in the area.
By the time firefighters arrived, Brooks said, flames were shooting through the home’s roof.
Firefighters from various surrounding jurisdictions spent hours knocking down the fire and checking for hot spots. Brooks noted that the home – with nearly 5,000 square feet of living space and a large, four-car garage – prompted a thorough process to detect hot spots.
