The fire that forced more than 1,200 residents to evacuate their homes in El Dorado and Amador counties has destroyed 10 homes and seven outbuildings, according to Cal Fire. The 3,800-acre blaze is 35 percent contained this afternoon from 20 percent on Saturday.
There has been one minor injury to an inmate firefighter, said Lynne Tolmachoff, a Cal Fire spokesperson. There are about 1,500 firefighters battling the fire.
"(Yesterday) we ended up with triple-digit temperatures, low humidity and high winds, which caused the fire to jump the containment line," Tolmachoff said.
Highway 49 is open, but drivers should be aware of a lot of fire personnel travelling on this road, she said. Sand Ridge, Mt. Aukum, Vintage and Buzzards Gulch roads are all closed.
