Property damaged in the King fire is eligible to immediate property tax relief the El Dorado County assessors office announced Monday.
The fire – which is believed to be the work of an arsonist – has destroyed 10 homes and 22 other structures to date. It’s burned 87,592 acres and threatens 12,000 homes.
El Dorado County Assessor Karl Weiland said provisions in the tax code allow for an immediate reduction in accessed value in the event of a wildfire. To qualify, the loss must exceed $10,000 and be filed within 12 month of the damage.
He said his office would works with Cal Fire and the county building department to speed the process of correcting the 2014/2015 tax bill. He encouraged displaced residents to update a mailing address with the post office.
