Two prescribed agricultural burns were set Sunday on private farmland in northern and western Sacramento, raising public concern over thick smoke.
Sacramento County officials gave farm owners permission to set the fires, said Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Chris Harvey. Controlled burns are scheduled around this time each fall, he said.
Sacramento Fire Department received several calls from concerned residents regarding dark, billowing smoke, according to a social media post by the department.
