The man who died during an early morning fire Saturday at a four-unit complex in Sacramento’s Arden Arcade area has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s website identified the victim as Raymond Hillestad, 71, of Sacramento.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighters responding to the 3:30 a.m. blaze on Cathedral Court saw smoke coming out of one of the units. They quickly put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to the second floor of the two-story unit near Fulton and Northrup avenues.

Firefighters found Hillestad’s body during a search.

Officials estimated $25,000 in total damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross assisted 12 residents displaced by the blaze.
