Wood fencing and a backyard shed were damaged in a grass fire that burned about 10 acres behind a residential neighborhood in Elk Grove early Friday afternoon.
The fire sent up thick plumes of smoke.
Tracey Hansen, chief of the Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department, said the fire burned 10 acres of dry grass in the field behind homes on Dandelion Drive, near Sheldon Road and Highway 99.
