Late-summer Sacramento heat to approach 100 degrees by Sunday

High pressure building in the region will push Sacramento-area temperatures close to 100 degrees by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high will be near 91, with west-southwest winds of around 6 miles per hour in the afternoon. NWS forecasters said the area high will bump up to near 93 degrees on Saturday and near a high of 97 on Sunday.

By Wednesday, forecasters said, high temperatures will drop back down to the mid-80s.

Tonight’s low will be around 58 degrees, with light, variable winds.

Here’s the extended forecast for the Sacramento area:

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Calm winds becoming west-northwest around 5 miles per hour in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 60. West-southwest winds 5 to 7 mph, becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Light and variable winds.

Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 61.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 89.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56.
