November in Sacramento is expected to dawn much as October closed, with a slight chance of showers forecast through the morning hours.

As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, it was unclear whether enough rain would fall during the evening to make this the third wettest October on record. No rain had fallen during the day, although light showers were expected to move into the area during the evening, said Karl Swanberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. They were not expected to be as heavy as Sunday’s soaker.

The forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of showers before noon Tuesday. By afternoon, the rain is expected to give way to partly sunny skies with a high near 66 degrees.

In the Sierra Nevada, the National Weather Service reported that a weak storm was expected to bring rain and snow Monday night, with 2 to 6 inches of snow possible above 7,000 feet in the northern Sierra and lighter amounts down to 6,000 feet. Motorists are advised to expect travel delays as snow could continue through the morning commute. In Truckee, scattered showers are forecast before 11 a.m, followed by a slight chance of rain. A high of 45 degrees is expected Tuesday, with a low Tuesday night around 17 degrees.

The rain is expected to clear out of the Sacramento area by mid-week. But with moist ground and calm winds, the area could see patchy fog in the late night an early morning hours, Swanberg said. Nights also will be colder, with overnight lows in the low 40s to 50 degrees. Highs Wednesday through Friday are expected to be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
