Snow showers Wednesday morning in the Sierra prompted the need for westbound truck drivers to be screened at Prosser Road in Truckee to ensure that they are carrying maximum chains to proceed, the state Department of Transportation reports.

Earlier, chain controls were in effect for I-80 motorists from Kingvale to the Donner Lake interchange. Off-and-on snow showers are forecast before 4 p.m. in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service. West wind about 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, are expected.

In Sacramento, temperatures are expected to reach near 61 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
