Following the mid-week heat, a big cool down is on the way by the weekend, the National Weather Service reports.

An early-season heat spell is expected to continue through Thursday in Sacramento.

A high of 91 degrees was recorded Monday as a high-pressure system warmed the Central Valley. Look for a high of 92 in Sacramento on Tuesday, which would be 15 degrees above normal for early May.

The National Weather Service also predicts that afternoon winds will pick up Tuesday, perhaps gusting to 20 mph.

A significant cool-down is forecast to begin Friday and continue through the weekend. There’s even a chance of some showers on Sunday to go along with temperatures in the 70s.
