Sacramento’s afternoon high temperatures are expected to go from the 90s to the 60s in four days as a heat spell turns into a cooling trend.

The National Weather Service is predicting that Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week. A maximum temperature of 93 degrees is forecast for Sacramento.

The area has been warmed by above normal temperatures for several days. The high on Tuesday was 92 degrees, which is far above the normal of 77 degrees in early May.

The weather begins to gradually change on Thursday as temperatures lower. By Saturday, the high is only expected to be 69 degrees.

A slight chance of showers is forecast for the weekend in Sacramento, but the mountains have the best chance for precipitation, according to the weather service. April finished with a 3.36 inches of rainfall, which is way above the normal of 1.30 inches for the month.

The seasonal total stands at 33.66 inches of rain, which is 177 percent of normal as of May 2. The rainfall year 2016-17 is the fourth wettest on record.

Following the mid-week heat, a big cool down is on the way by the weekend, the National Weather Service reports.
