Temperatures are considerably cooler Friday after a week of unseasonably hot spring days.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 78 degrees, exactly the average high temperature for May 5 in Sacramento.

Weekend gardeners will welcome the 70-degree temperatures forecast for Saturday and Sunday after a stretch of 90-degree days. The cooler weather will be perfect for planting tomatoes, although not great for getting the plants to grow.

The onshore flow of marine air is expected to continue into next week. Moderate temperatures and sunny conditions are forecast for the Sacramento region through Thursday.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 78. South wind around 8 mph.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming north northwest after midnight.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. West northwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
