This week’s sprinkling of rain that dampened Sacramento made 2016-17 the third wettest water year on record.
The 0.18 inches of rain that was recorded Thursday pushed the rainfall total for this very wet rainfall season just ahead of the year of 1981-82. A total of 33.94 inches has fallen since Oct. 1.
The rainfall year runs until Sept. 30, so there is still time to add to the current total. The two years at the top of the list are 1982-83, when 36.57 inches fell, and 1889-90, when 34.60 inches were recorded.
Rainfall record-keeping in Sacramento dates back to 1877.
