The last day of summer dawned with scattered rain and snow showers in the Donner Summit area, the National Weather Service reports.

Snow showers are expected to last until 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by rain showers. The high temperature is expected to reach 50 degrees in the Truckee area, according to the weather service. There is a 20 percent of showers after 11 a.m. forecast for Friday, the first day of autumn.

In the Sacramento area, a cool day is expected Thursday, with the high temperature expected to hit 71, 16 degrees below normal for Sept. 21. Temperatures will return to the 80s in time for the weekend, the weather service reports.
