A winter storm watch has been issued for the northern Sierra Friday night through early Sunday morning, with possible hazardous travel conditions.

The storm watch, which is valid from 5 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Sunday, is due to concerns over 12 to 18 inches of snow possible 6,000 feet south of Highway 50, 4 to 6 inches north of Highway 50 and 1 to 3 feet at higher elevations above the level of the passes. Also, gusty winds over mountain ridges are expected.

National Weather Service rain forecasts from late Thursday through Sunday call for a half-inch to an inch in Sacramento and one to two inches in Chico and Redding. Stockton is forecast to have up to a half-inch of preciptation.
