Lightning on Sacramento’s horizon tonight?

Along with the threat of mountain showers this afternoon, the Sacramento region could see lightning and thunder this evening.

While today will be another warm one, tonight could be a bit different in the Sacramento region. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 20 percent chance of rain and even thunderstorms after the sun goes down.

Looking toward the weekend, expect Saturday to be cool and Sunday to be warm. The high on Saturday is forecast to be 71 and the maximum on Sunday is predicted to come in at 80 degrees.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind becoming west southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72. South southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. South wind around 9 mph.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of rain before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 52.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 86.
