High pressure brought a maximum temperature of 105 degrees to Sacramento on Monday. Now a low pressure system and the return of the Delta breeze were poised to drop temperatures 20 degrees on Tuesday.

Along with the more normal temperatures, the National Weather Service is forecasting a slight chance of showers Tuesday night thanks in part to the remnants of tropical storm Blanca. The chance of showers and thunderstorms could continue into Wednesday.

After Wednesday, the heat returns. By Friday, according to NWS forecasters, the high in Sacramento could reach triple digits again: 101 degrees.

This morning, Valley residents awoke to warm temperatures, a holdover from an extremely hot Monday. At 3 a.m., temperatures ranged from 72 to 84 degrees in the Valley.

Only the Delta was cooler. It is unclear when the Delta breeze will arrive in Sacramento Tuesday. However, the 15 mph breeze at Travis Air Force Base Tuesday morning was a good sign that relief is on the way.
