Above-normal temperatures continue to maintain a presence in Sacramento – but the 80s are on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

The continuing hot stretch in Sacramento has included 100 degrees on Thursday, 103 on Friday, 104 on Saturday and 99 on Sunday. The temperature is expected to stair-step down to a maximum of 94 degrees on Monday in Sacramento.

The National Weather Service is predicting cooler temperatures for much of the work week as high pressure shifts east ahead of a low pressure system now in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

More substantial cooling is expected to gradually develop, leading to highs in the 80s on Wednesday and Thursday. The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Monday: A slight chance of sprinkles before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Light south southeast wind becoming south southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. South wind around 9 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. South southeast wind around 8 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. South southwest wind around 8 mph.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84.

Thursday night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 93.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.
