High pressure system pushes temperatures up in Sacramento

An unusual high pressure system is pushing temperatures in the Sacramento region more than 15 degrees above normal.

On Saturday, temperatures are expected to reach nearly 100 degrees in Sacramento, according to the National Weather Service. The average for this time of year is 83 degrees.

“We have an anomalous high pressure system over us,” said weather service forecaster Drew Peterson. “We’re still in that transitory period between summer and fall, even though it’s officially fall.”

Temperatures, however, will move to about 95 degrees Sunday. The easing of the high pressure system will drop temperatures into 80-degree territory by next weekend, Peterson said.
