A hot 100 degrees today before weekend cool-down in Sacramento

The National Weather Service predicts Sacramento will experience the third 100-degree day of August 2015 Thursday.

Previous 100-degree readings this month occurred on Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 when the mercury reached 106 degrees both days. Thursday’s maximum reading is expected to come in at an even 100 degrees.

After that, temperatures start to decline when a low pressure system off the Pacific Northwest moves inland over the weekend. The highs in Sacramento on Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be 86 degrees.

The normal high temperature in late August is 91 degrees. The detailed, seven-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south-southeast after midnight.

Friday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. South wind around 10 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. South-southwest wind around 9 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 89.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86.
