High summer heat returns to Sacramento area after brief absence

After a few days of pleasant daytime temperatures and cool nights, summer heat will return with a vengeance this week.

A ridge of high pressure is building in the region, pushing Monday’s high temperature to 95 in downtown Sacramento, and 96 degrees at Sacramento Executive Airport. That’s just the start of the hot streak, as the National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 108 on Friday.

In between, high temperatures will gradually build up, with lows in the mid-60s to low-70s at night.

Tonight’s low will be around 61 degrees, with light and variable wind.

Here’s the extended National Weather Service forecast for the Sacramento area:

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Light winds will build to about 5 miles per hour in the afternoon.

Tuesday night: Clear, with a low around 63. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 102. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday night: Clear, with a low around 65.

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 104.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71.

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 108.

Friday night: Clear, with a low around 67.

Saturday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 103.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97.

Monday: Sunny, high of 94.
