Cool down expected for weekend

Today will close out a week of record high temperatures before the area is expected to cool down for the weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of evening thunderstorms, especially over the mountains, Saturday through Monday.

There is an air quality alert in effect for the region for this evening.

The detailed 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 105. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Saturday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. South southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. South southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 87.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.
