High pressure is building over the west coast, a tell-tale sign that temperatures will trend upward this weekend.

After a week of below-normal temperatures, today and the weekend will be warmer in Sacramento. The high Friday is expected to be 88 degrees and both Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be in the mid-90s.

The National Weather Service notes that winds will be breezy from the north, along with the rising temperatures. Next week, with the arrival of fall, a slow cooling trend is forecast for Sacramento.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 59. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 94. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 62. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Light and variable wind becoming north northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 63.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.
