Hot weather through at least mid-week in Sacramento

Docks at a marina in Lake Shasta have been moved farther and farther away from their shoreline resorts as the drought drags on. Less visible but more devastating is the damage to native fish that struggle for survival, even in good weather.

It will feel a lot like summer the first part of the week -- before a slight cooling trend starts to take hold Wednesday or Thursday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high on Monday of 92 degrees in Sacramento. That’s a dozen degrees above normal for mid-October.

It’s not unheard of to get hot temperatures in the fall. Sacramento has recorded 100-degree days in early October before.

However, that does not mean the toasty temps are welcome. For those eager to kiss summer’s heat goodbye and welcome a change of seasons, there will be some wait.

The weekend is expected to have more normal temperatures with afternoon readings in the low 80s. The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Columbus Day: Sunny, with a high near 92. Light and variable wind.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. Light north wind.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming west northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.
