Fair skies and normal temperatures are forecast for Friday and Saturday before showers return to Sacramento.
Snow is also forecast for the weekend in the Sierra where a storm earlier this week blanketed the higher reaches of the mountains. Snow levels are predicted to start at a high elevation before dropping Sunday night and Monday.
Boreal Mountain Resort, northwest of Lake Tahoe along Interstate 80, opened Friday. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe in Nevada opened earlier in the week.
