After latest storm, winds blow in to dry Sacramento region

Blowing in on the heels of the weekend storm that swept through the region, winds will buffet Sacramento on Monday.

Gusts will reach 30 mph, the National Weather Service predicts, drying a region that saw significant precipitation for a third consecutive weekend.

“Usually after a strong frontal system, we get the north winds that come in,” said Jason Clapp, a NWS forecaster in Sacramento. That frontal system left about a third of an inch of rain in the valley and dumped several inches of snow in the Sierra.

Aside from the winds, sunny skies are in store for the region after the morning clouds clear out. Downtown Sacramento is expected to hit a high temperature of 58 degrees. The region will warm throughout the week, with highs ranging into the mid-60s. Patchy fog will appear in some areas.

Here’s the seven-day forecast:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. North-northwest wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Monday night: Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 41. North-northwest wind around 7 mph.

Tuesday: Patchy fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 63. North-northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday night: Patchy fog after 10 p.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Light north wind.

Wednesday: Areas of fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 65. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 65.

Thursday night: Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 47.

Friday: Patchy fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 68.

Friday night: Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 47.

Saturday: Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Saturday night: Patchy fog. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 45.

Sunday: Patchy fog. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 62.
