Travis Wilson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says you’re going to like the forecast for the rest of the weekend.

“If you’re into sunny skies,” he said.

Clear skies are on tap in Sacramento for Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures reaching the mid-50s both days.

And in the Sierra, expect clear skies as well, with a high temperature of 33 degrees today in South Lake Tahoe and 36 on Sunday.

Those pleasant conditions will follow some pretty bitter nights and early mornings. The unofficial low temperature at Sacramento Executive Airport early Saturday was 29 degrees, one degree warmer than the record low of 28 set in 1952.

A freeze warning will be in effect for Saturday night, Wilson said, with low temperatures expected to hover around 30 degrees.

South Lake Tahoe woke up to some biting cold on Saturday morning as well – the thermometer read 1 degree just before 9 a.m.

These clear conditions should last for at least the next five days, Wilson said. The next chance for rain in Sacramento is on Thursday.
