A late fall storm is expected to sweep into Sacramento on Thursday.

Until the one-day weather event arrives, days will be marked by mostly sunny skies and cold nights. The high on Tuesday is expected to be 56 degrees.

The rain on Thursday is forecast to be accompanied by breezy conditions. Wind gusts could reach 31 mph in Sacramento.

Precipitation is predicted to amount to two-tenths to a half an inch of rain in the Sacramento Valley. In the mountains, up to a foot of snow could fall near passes.

Thursday: Rain, mainly after 11 a.m. High near 57. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Thursday night: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
