Three storms of varying intensity are expected in Sacramento this week.
The first rain event is predicted for tonight when a system poised Tuesday morning along the north coast will spread inland across the Sacramento region and then into the mountains.
The heaviest rainfall is forecast for late tonight and Wednesday morning as the front moves through. About a half inch of rainfall is possible.
In the Sierra Nevada, up to a foot of snow could add to what is already on the ground at elevations above 5,500 feet.
The National Weather Service is predicting a brief break in rain after the storm moves east. Then a weaker storm moves in Thursday afternoon or night, followed by another stronger wet weather system on Friday night.
