Sacramento will have partly cloudy skies this week, starting February off dry. A slight chance of rain remains for Sunday with most of the precipitation predicted to hit south of the city.

The National Weather Service predicts the wind will gust through Sunday afternoon and night, decreasing on Monday, diminishing the chance of fog in the morning hours. Some snow is expected to fall along the northern Sierra crest. Snow was reported Sunday morning near 3,000 feet and higher.

The California Highway Patrol Sunday morning closed Soda Springs Road near the Serene Lakes housing community in Placer County because water on the roadway was two to three foot deep. Emergency personnel assisted a couple of motorists in the area, but no injuries were reported, according to the CHP traffic incidence website.

In the Sacramento area, Sunday is predicted to see a high of 54, and the daytime temperatures should stay in the mid-50s for the rest of the week.

By midday Sunday, the total rainfall for the month of January stood at 5.79 inches in Sacramento, more than two inches higher than normal and an improvement over 2015, which was the driest January on record.
