It’s a good day to take your Valentine for a picnic: the forecast calls for a mostly sunny day with a high near 74.

The next few days are predicted to be sunny and warm, with rain returning Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The high pressure ridge that has kept the sun out and temperatures up is lingering over the eastern Pacific. It’s expected to be a little cloudy, caused by moisture riding over the top of the ridge.

Sacramento could hit some heat records early in the week. Sunday’s record high is 74, set last year. Monday could reach a record of 76 set in 1977. Tuesday is predicted to be one degree short of the record 75 set in 2007.

A low pressure system is expected to move into Northern California starting Wednesday and continuing into Thursday, bringing precipitation back to the region. The Valley could see between 0.25 inches and 0.75 inches, with more falling in the mountains. The NWS predicts as much as a foot of snow on the peaks.
