Depending on where you were in Sacramento on Monday, temperatures either tied or topped the record of 76 set for the same date back in 1977, but come midweek, temperatures will drop, rain will douse the Valley and a foot or two of snow will cover the Sierra Nevada.

National Weather Service forecaster Brooke Bingaman said Monday that the temperature at Sacramento Executive Airport reached 78 degrees, while in downtown, the high was 76.

“Sometimes with airports,” Bingaman said, “temperatures are higher because of all the asphalt from the runways. That can soak up the sun and make that area a little warmer.”

Tuesday’s temperatures also are expected to be in the mid-70s. Right now, there’s high pressure sitting over California, Bingaman said, but that’s actually going to shift eastward, and a storm system will move in by Wednesday and Thursday. That will bring cooler temperatures in the low 60s. While it looks as though that system will mainly affect Wednesday and Thursday, there is a weaker system that could affect Saturday.
