Warm days linger until rain’s possible return to Sacramento region

Wet weather could return to the Sacramento region on Sunday, but until then, the area is expected to have mostly sunny skies.

High temperatures Friday and Saturday are forecast to be in the low 70s. The average high temperature for mid-March is about 67 degrees.

Confidence that rain will fall Sunday is growing at the National Weather Service in Arden Arcade. Computer models point toward a short series of storms rolling through the region Sunday and Monday.

Forecasters predict light valley rainfall totals. In the Sierra, snow levels are likely to drop to pass level Sunday night.

The detailed, seven-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the morning.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 48. South wind around 6 mph.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63.
