Spring arrived in Sacramento on Sunday under a cloudy sky with a dash of rain.

Two small weather systems were expected to drop between a quarter inch and an inch on the city on Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Rain started falling in the mountains Sunday morning. Monday’s system will move out of the area on Tuesday.

Downtown totals for the rainfall year, starting Oct. 1, are still below normal at 14.78 inches, and the latest storm wasn’t expected to push the city above the normal value of 16.73 inches.

Snow levels were expected to remain high Sunday and lower on Monday, possibly affecting travel in the Sierra.

A high-pressure system is expected to keep the rest of the week sunny and dry. The NWS predicts highs hovering in the 60s, with lows in the 40s at night. Idamis Del Valle, a meteorologist with the NWS, said predictions show El Niño weakening through the spring and transitioning to neutral by late spring or early summer.
