Temperatures are expected to dip about 15 degrees on Thursday after a high pressure system fades from Northern California.

A change in the weather after Wednesday’s 90 degrees in Sacramento is in the offing. Overnight readings in the valley and foothills were in the mid-50s and low 60s.

The National Weather Service notes that a low pressure area to the southwest of San Diego is primed to nudge the upper high pressure ridge over Northern California further north and east. That action will spell a few showers late Thursday and overnight, mostly in the Sierra Nevada south of Interstate 80.

The changes will mark the start of a cooling trend for Sacramento as the Delta breeze picks up. Rainfall is also in the cards with amounts of up to two inches in the mountains and about a quarter inch in the valley forecast over a three-day period starting Friday.

Temperatures are normally around 70 degrees in the first week of April in Sacramento. Today’s high is predicted to come in at 76, but daily maximums decrease Friday through Sunday.
